Artbiz explores that middle ground between “art” and “business”. How genuinely creative people manage (or do not manage) to carve out a living doing what they love. How they juggle dayjobs, families, real life, relationships, paying bills and doing their craft/art.

Artbiz plunges the depths of nepotism this time round, with my cousin Dean Bartlett. I identify strongly with Dean as someone who follows his passion while also being a loving dad, caring husband and a reluctant wage slave. Cheers to Dean for talking with us.

Q1 First can you introduce yourself? Who are you? Do you have dependents? Do you have a mortgage? Are you the sole income earner?

Dean Bartlett, I am married have two children, girls, aged 3 and 6. I have a mortgage and I’m the sole income earner.

Q2 What do you do creatively? How long have you been doing it?

I am a gigging musician, bass player, and have been playing for 29 years.

My industry depends on audience, who can become apathetic, but I stay positive that people will always enjoy live music.

Q11 Is there anyone out there that you aspire to be like? Why?
